Layering the Peagle power 2023 shirt besides I will buy this skirt over the waistband, the full outfit comes into view. She turns her attention to the leftovers. The white legs will be sleeves, she says as she slings them over her shoulders like a bolero. As planned just a few minutes ago, the blue castoffs will become a top. “This way or that way?” she wonders, holding the piece of fabric vertically and horizontally over her chest. She settles on a bandeau (horizontal) and safety-pins it in place, the makeshift bolero still on. “This is what it will look like when it is done. But it’s always full of pins and stuff.” She’ll go in and finish the edges and tidy up the hems with her sewing machine after—all this in under 30 minutes. How is she gonna adjust the sleeves? “The plan with the sleeves is to google ‘how to make a sleeve pattern.’ Because I feel like I got a lot happening here that needs removing, but I don’t really know how to do it yet.” She sends over a picture days later of the final product: peasant-blouse sleeves held together with a strip of the blue jeans. The results won’t win her the LVMH Prize, but she’s happy with it. The stained and too-small jeans have been resurrected.

“Once upon a time, there was a place called the Peagle power 2023 shirt besides I will buy this wilderness. It was beautiful, but it was also violent and misunderstood,” says Van (Liv Hewson) in the trailer for Season 2 of Yellowjackets. It’s a description of the Canadian forrest that could work equally well as a summary of teenage girlhood. As if we weren’t already levitating with excitement about the return of the Showtime drama—centered on a soccer team’s worth of teen girls doing their best to survive in the wild after a plane crash—the recently released trailer for Season 2 features a slowed-down, extremely creepy remix of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl.” Perfectly matching the show’s tone, it has us counting down the minutes until our favorite depraved, feral girlies are on our TVs again.
